Your tips for visiting Schenectady

According to our reader poll, nearly 45% of you are visiting Schenectady more often these days. The other 55% are either not going to the Electric City or visiting about the same amount.

Here’s what you had to say about our trend story: Buzzing again: How the Electric City found its spark ⚡️

  • “The Old Dutch Church in the Stockade has Free Jazz Vespers every Sunday from 5:00-6:00. The musicians are all union, excellent, and different each weekend. Enjoy the music and head out for that early Sunday reservation.”

  • “I live in the Stockade and love downtown Schenectady! I'm so glad you covered it in your newsletter this week. There is so much cool stuff going on there all the time and more people need to know about it.”

  • “Thursday nights have long been the night for young movie fans to gather together [at Proctors’ ICFS screenings]. Tonight was David Lynch's “Mulholland Drive,” last week was Talking Head's “Stop Making Sense,” and the week before a sneak peek at the sensational F*Toys.”

  • Arthur's Market is a wonderful place. Great breakfast sandwiches etc but also a community place with a regular time neighbors can meet for a coffee, a letter writing Sunday, cookbook club...that make me wish I lived round there! I'd hoped the cafe/ bar place on Lark St (Larkin Hall? used to be a cool store with beautiful local crafts) would become such a gathering place but when they installed a fancy coffee machine rather than have baristas, it didn't look promising & sadly never really got going. Would love an Arthur's style place but realize it's not easy to do this!”

  • Great farmers market. Great food. Several events at Druthers. Their Master Gardeners Program. I didn't plan to visit more often, but it just happened. Yes, Albany needs to borrow from the Troy and Schenectady playbooks.”

  • “Can't wait for the new grocery store! Another game changer!”

  • “As a subscriber to Proctors....we go out to eat before every show at a variety of places.”

  • “Living in East Greenbush makes it a long trip, especially for late shows at Proctors. Did see the Titanic exhibit, however.”
