📣 TALK OF THE TOWN
The Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival kicks off the fall festival season
Move with the music: Join this fall festival crawl 🎷🍻 💃
With the kids back in school, the weather turning cooler, and PSL at Starbucks (that’s Pumpkin Spice Latte, y’all), it’s surely fall.
While it’s cool but not yet frickin’ frigid outside, we can still enjoy a good ol’ street fest. Luckily, there are 3 big festivals all happening this Saturday in Albany, all within walking distance of each other.
Starting off strong is the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival, back for its 22nd year at Jennings Landing. Our friends at NYS Music have a nice writeup on this year’s lineup, headlined by drummer and three-time Grammy nominee Nate Smith. The genre-blending, Albany-based jazz rap octet Bright Dog Red kicks off the festivities at 12:30 pm, and a fireworks show over the river caps off what’s bound to be a lovely fall evening.
A short, 15-min stroll away, you can go from jazz sounds to country music at the Red, White & Brew Festival in front of the MVP Arena. Honoring active military and veterans, the first-ever block party on Pearl Street is headlined by Army vet and country music star Craig Morgan. Starting at 2 pm, the free event also features food, craft beer, and vendor booths.
Walk another 10 minutes to the Empire State Plaza and you’ll be transported by the Latin sounds of the Hispanic Heritage Celebration. The free festival features Alex Bueno’s breezy merengue and bachata music.
Jazz, country, Latin pop… it’s all happening in Albany. This Reddit post touting Albany’s “diverse, interesting neighborhoods with character” and poo-pooing the haters, reminds us that the city has a ton to offer, every single day.
